Single-Payer Health Insurance

July 31, 2009

Single-payer health care has been one idea proposed to help remedy the health care of the United States.  Essentially, this form of health insurance is a system where by which health care expenses are covered by a single source.  This does not mean that the government controls the health care.  It can also be a organization that was contracted out, and is able to finance the expenses through tax revenues of family and companies.

Health Tip!

July 30, 2009

Research have linked a personality link with the development of cancer. People who tend to have a “helpless” and “hopeless” view about life may be more prone to cancer and may succumb to it more quickly once a diagnosis is made.

Health Insurance Claims

July 29, 2009

Insurance claims are bills associated with the health services that you receive.  For example, a typical doctor visit may cost $100, but with many plans it is a simple copayment of $25, and then the health care provided will bill your insurance company for the remaining $75.  The insurance company will then review the bill including other relevant information from your visit and compare it to the defined benefits covered by your policy.  If the services provided are covered under your plan the insurance company will pay your health care provider, and it they aren’t you will receive a bill in the mail for the remaining balance.  A nice thing about having insurance, even if it didn’t cover all the expenses is the fact that you will always at least receive a negotiated/discounted price because you are insured.

Health Tip!

July 28, 2009

The incidence of skin cancer is rising. The likelihood of skin cancer is increased with frequent or long-term exposure to the sun. Fair-skinned individuals are even more susceptible. In addition to limiting sun exposure, be sure to cover up with clothing and use sunscreens with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher.

President Obama Addresses Health Insurance Issue

July 27, 2009

President Obama for the most part has been following through on his promise to make the Whitehouse and Government more transparent.  During his briefing held this last Wednesday, he again emphasized the importance of a health insurance reform, and the importance it will play in rebuilding our country’s economy.

America currently spends the most on health care services, yet it still has the greatest number of uninsured individuals.  By creating a more cost efficient health care system (for example, electronic medical records to save on redundant tests) we could cut down on excess spending.

Health Insurance for College Grads

July 24, 2009

A likely predicament many college graduates find themselves in when graduating is being uninsured.  You are too old to be considered eligible for your parents insurance, and if you haven’t landed a job which offers health benefits you are walking around with an extraordinary amount of risk.  So what can recent college graduates do to protect both their health and their financial future?  My recommendation is to research and apply for individual health insurance.

Buy Health Insurance Before You Need It

July 22, 2009

Just the other day MyInsuranceExpert had a client calling in for health insurance as he sat in the emergency room.  He had broken his hand, and was looking for medical insurance to help offset his inevitable bills.  The bottom-line is the fact that this individual waited until it was too late to get health insurance.  To begin, the enrollment process can take anywhere from 2-3 weeks, and pending surgeries can either be excluded from coverage or considered an auto-decline.  Unfortunately, our Advisor was unable to help him with his insurance needs.  Do not wait until you’re sitting in the ER to get your insurance.

Health Tip!

July 21, 2009

Data from the Framingham Heart Study on over 2,000 women showed that those who were obese, with the greatest percentage of their fat located on the back and belly, had a 72 to 100 percent greater chance of developing breast cancer. For this reason, women with high levels of torso fat should make extra effort to lose weight.

United Health Care and Virtual Doctors

July 20, 2009

Paralleling the President’s overhaul to our nation’s health care, United Health Care (the second largest insurer in America) is looking to create an easier means for individuals to reap the benefits and services of doctors. They are hoping to make it so easy to see a doctor that you can actually do it from your very own living-room.

United Health Care is partnering up with Cisco Systems in their effort to create this new virtual network. Essentially United Health Care will utilize Cisco’s video conferencing capabilities with their network of doctors to offer better medical service to people in underserved areas. Individuals can purchase fiber-optic cameras for use in their own house or they could visit the mall where virtual doctor’s offices have been created.
