President Obama Meets with AARP about Medicare:

August 5, 2009

This last week, I watched the Tele-Town Hall meeting President Obama had with AARP. During this meeting President Obama again defended his claims that his health care reform would not change Medicare for the elderly. The concerns about Medicare have been hovering for quite some time now; and with the elderly living longer, and a huge influx of baby-boomers reaching the age of 65 it couldn’t be a more pivotal moment for this program.

President Obama stressed that a major objective of his plan is to create a means by which to increase our systems efficiency. To do this guidelines must be created. Through the establishment of an Independent Medical Advisory Committee, Obama hopes to build off what is working in an effort to control costs. Medicare and Medicaid are two government programs that are continuously over budget and politicized. In an effort to fix what ills the industry the government should test their current theories in hopes for cost savings for both programs.

I believe that Obama-care should focus more on tax credits for doctors and individuals to help drive savings and promote widespread health insurance coverage.
